Import requirements

12 weeks for Rabies-free countries / 16 weeks for Non Rabies-free countries

Pets are to be vaccinated against Rabies no less than 21 days prior to the departure. Pets from rabies free countries do not need a Rabies vaccination.

For dogs, the dogs shall be vaccinated against other significant in fectious diseases i.e. Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, at least 21 days prior to the departure.

For cats, the cats shall be vaccinated against other significant in fectious diseases i.e. Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Feline Calicivirus, and Feline Panleukopenia at least 21 days prior to the departure.

Same procedures and requirements are applied regardless of quantity.

Import duty & tax 30% on CIF value. Pls see a calculation example below:

Air freight charge = USD 800.- (actual amount to be shown on AWB)

Pet's value = USD 200.- (to be assessed by Thai Customs)

Insurance fee 1% on Pet’s value = USD 2.-

Total CIF value = USD 800 + 200 + 2 = USD 1,002.-

Estimated import duty & tax 30% = USD 360.60.-

Identification and microchip

Microchip is Required.

Rabies and vaccinations

Pets must be vaccinated against Rabies at minimum age of 12 weeks and no less than 21 days prior to the departure. Pets from free of Rabies certified countries do not need a Rabies vaccination.

Pets from free of Rabies certified countries do not need a Rabies vaccination.

Dogs shall be vaccinated against rabies and other significant in fectious diseases i.e. Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus and Leptospirosis at least 21 days prior to the departure.

Cats shall be vaccinated against rabies and other significant in fectious diseases i.e. Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, and Panleukopenia at least 21 days prior to the departure.

Tests and treatments

For dogs, beside the vaccination, Leptospirosis can be done by test. The dogs shall arrive in Thailand within 30 days after receiving the negative result.

Import: Internal and external parasite treatment (de-worming) is not required.

Export: It depends on the destination country’s requirements

Health certificate and permits

All pets must have a valid Export Health Certificate issued by government vet of the exporting country or a valid Health Certificate issued by a Licensed Veterinarian and endorsed by exporting country’s governing authority within 10 days of entering Thailand.

A health certificate in English, signed or endorsed stating:

• number and species,
• breed, sex, age and color or animal identification (microchip number),

• name and address of the owner OR the kennel of origin,
• vaccination records,

• validity of health certificate
• origin and destination countries

*For importation of cats/dogs into Thailand, ensure exporting country writes a remark in of ficial export health certificate certifying that the animal (s) is/are vaccinated against rabies and combo vaccine (either RCP for cat or DHLPP for dog) reflecting the date of each valid vaccine. Without this remark, Department of Livestock Thailand will refuse the importation. Some exporting countries do not write the vaccination date in the of ficial HC but they endorse the vaccination records by having stamp and signature. That is also acceptable.

Import permit is mandatory required prior arrival and shall be obtained not less than 7 working days in advance. The import permit is valid for 60 days.

As of 24 May 2021 on wards, Import permit will be required for the following pets/animals:

• Hamster
• Chinchilla
• Guinea Pig
• Hedgehog
• Ferret and etc.

Excess baggage pets are not required for customs clearance. Manifest cargo pets are required for customs clearance.

Customs working hours:

Monday – Friday 08:30 – 16:30 hours. Clearance beyond working hours is available for pre-arrangement. Weekend and holiday clearance are also possible.

Minimum clearance process is approx. 3-4 hours after actual landing time.

Expected import tax & duty is 30% of CIF value

Export notes

All documents should be submitted 14 days in advance, before departure of the

shipment. Please reserve more days during the holiday season. The originals to be

attached to the travel crate.

• Vaccination Book (the pages containing pet’s info e.g. name, breed, sex, birth date, vaccination record, microchip number, etc.)
• Microchip certificate

• Photo of Pet
• Photo of pet inside the crate and outside the crate

• Owner's valid passport ID page
• Documents required from the destination country e.g. import permit, serology test result, etc. It will depend on each country.

Final health check 3 days before departure.

Microchip is mandatory required.

The of ficial veterinarian follows the import requirements of destination country.

Other pets / CITES / extra rules

Required for birds.

CITES – Besides the birds, all the CITES listed animals will also require a CITES Import Permit prior to arrival into Thailand.

Vaccination records and microchip are required.

Pet travel as excess baggage is allowed. Customs clearance is not required. Only export permit and export health certificate are required by the Department of Livestock Development (DLD). Owner must bring the pet to meet the airport veterinarian before departure. Please reserve time for the mcheck-up at least 4 hours before departure.
