Pet import requirements to Suriname:

  • Health Certificate from a licensed veterinarian in the exporting country
  • Import permit from the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries in Suriname

Other things: microchip, dewormers/flea and tick medication aren't a requirement, but it is better to have them up to date.

For the import of live animals, animal products, veterinary medicines and animal-

related articles, a valid veterinary import permit issued by the Deputy Veterinary

Services Rectorate is required.

➢ The veterinary import permit can be applied for by submitting a correctly and fully

completed application form and the accompanying documents to the secretariat

Directorate of Animal Husbandry.

➢ Before the arrival of a cargo, the importer must inform the sub directorate in the manner prescribed by him, after which the veterinary in spection takes place.

Your pet must be checked for both in ternal and external parasites shortly prior to arrival.

Please note that Suriname is considered a high-risk rabies country for dogs in accordance with the CDC in the United States.

Domestic cats and dogs must be free of diseases that can be transmitted to humans.

Identification and microchip

Not required but it is best to microchip your pet with a 15 digit ISO compliant pet microchip.

Rabies and vaccinations

A pet should be vaccinated for rabies between 21 days and 12 months before entering Suriname. You must have a valid rabies certificate.

It is advised to travel with the core vaccinations for dogs (in cluding Leptospirosis) and core vaccinations for cats.

Tests and treatments

Rabies titer test not required.

Parasite treatment is recommended to ensure pet is free of in ternal and external parasites upon examination and arrival.

Health certificate and permits

Within 7 days of travel an accredited veterinarian should issue the health certificate and have it endorsed by the government authority (USDA, CFIA, DEFRA for example) for in ternational export.
