CONDITIONS GOVERNING THE IMPORTATION OF DOGS

Animals (National and International Movement and Disease Prevention) Regulations 1994.

A permit would be granted subject to the terms and conditions, relating to the importation of dogs, as set out in the governing regulation for the time being enforced and to the following terms and conditions:

• The animal MUST accompanied by a health certificate signed by an Accredited Veterinarian and endorsed by the office of the Competent Authority (Veterinary) stating that:

a. The animal(s) was born in and has never left (COUNTRY) or where not born in or has left (COUNTRY) and returned, has been in (COUNTRY) for the previous six (6) months.

b.

i. The animal(s) should be implanted with an I.S.O microchip, followed by a Rabies Vaccination with an in activated adjuvant vaccine, the animal should not be less than twelve (12) weeks of age ii. At least three (3) weeks following the Rabies vaccination, a blood sample should be taken from the said animal(s) following microchip identification, and tested for antibody level.

The animal(s) MUST have a protective antibody level 0f >0.5 IU/ml. A copy of the Laboratory result must be delivered to this office and the protective antibody level confirmed BEFORE the issuance of an import permit.

• The animal(s) should be in good health and free from symptoms of any prescribed or any other in fectious or contagious disease.
• The animal(s) has/have been vaccinated against Canine Distemper, Parvovirus, Leptospirosis, Hepatitis and Parainfluenza not less than seven (7) days prior to date of export.

• The animal(s) must be screened for heartworm with negative results within seven (7) days prior to date of export.
• The animal(s) should be treated for external parasites and for in ternal parasites with an approved broad spectrum antihelminthic within seven (7) days prior to date of export.

It is advised to check with the St. Vincent Department of Agriculture. Pet must meet import requirements.

Follow either rabies free or rabies endemic requirements depending on export country.

Animal(s) landed in St. Vincent and the Grenadines after 4:00 p.m. Monday to Friday, on weekends or public holidays are subject to in spection fees.

Identification and microchip

The animal(s) should be implanted with an I.S.O microchip when the animal is not less than twelve (12) weeks of age.

Rabies and vaccinations

Rabies vaccination with an in activated adjuvant vaccine must be given when the animal is not less than twelve (12) weeks of age.

Dogs only: The animal(s) have been vaccinated against Canine Distemper, Parvovirus, Leptospirosis, Hepatitis and

Parainfluenza not less than seven (7) days prior to date of export. Cats only: The animal(s) have been vaccinated against Feline Rhinotracheitis, Panleukopenia, Feline Leukemia,

Calicivirus and Chlamydophila psittaci

Tests and treatments

DOGS ONLY: The animal(s) must be screened for heartworm on two (2) occasions within seventy-two (72) hours before export, with one test being conducted in the morning and the second test must be conducted after 4 pm on the same day, with negative results on both occasions.

At least three (3) weeks following the Rabies vaccination, a blood sample should be taken from the said animal following microchip identification, and tested for antibody level. The sample MUST be analysed at an approved laboratory (contact in formation below). Once the animal has a protective antibody level (>0.5 IU/ml) as established by the approved laboratory, the animal can be exported to St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Dogs only: The animal(s) were tested for heartworm disease with negative results within seven (7) days prior to date of export. Health certificate and permits

The animal MUST be accompanied by health certificate signed by a Government Veterinary Officer stating that:

a. The animal was born in and has never left (COUNTRY) or where not born in or has left (COUNTRY) and returned, has been in (COUNTRY) for the previous six (6) months.

b. During the twelve (12) months immediately preceding the exportation of the animal(s) there has been no rabies among unquarantined animals in the country from which the animal(s) is/are exported.

The animal MUST accompanied by a health certificate signed by an Accredited Veterinarian and endorsed by the office of the Competent Authority (Veterinary).

Required. An import permit will take at least 3 working days to process once all requisite documents are submitted. A copy of the Laboratory result for antibodies must be sent to the Animal Health and Production Division in order for an import permit to be issued.

Quarantine

The animal(s) was born in and has never left (COUNTRY) or where not born in or has left (COUNTRY) and returned, has been in (COUNTRY) for the previous six (6) months.

No pets from North and South America, Europe, Africa and Asia are allowed into St. Vincent & The Grenadines unless they have been in quarantine for six months. They can come aboard yachts, but must remain on board at all times.

All animals coming from a rabies endemic country MUST travel on a direct flight TO ENGLAND to undergo the period of quarantine imposed by DEFRA, England (www.defra.com). The animal(s) SHALL NOT be accompanied by any dog or cat except from the same country.

COUNTRIES FROM WHICH CATS AND DOGS MAY IMPORTED INTO ST. VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES WHERE QUARANTINE IN ENGLAND IS NOT REQUIRED. Antigua, Anguilla, Australia, Barbados, Dominica, Great Britain, Jamaica, Montserrat, St. Kitts-Nevis, St. Lucia, North Ireland, New Zealand, and the Republic of Ireland.

A passenger arriving from outside of St.Vincent and the Grenadines is required to:

• to declare to Customs anything contained in their baggage or carried with them that has been obtained outside the country
• produce travel documents to the examination of ficer as required
• produce baggage for examination as required by the of ficer
• answer all questions asked concerning his/her travel and baggage

An of ficer may refuse to process any passenger who does not present all baggage at the time of examination. Where baggage produced for examination belongs to more than one person (family/group), the owners must be present at the time of examination

A Veterinary Inspection Fee of EC$55.00/ US$20.00 per animal is chargeable upon in spection on arrival.
