Pet import requirements for Peru
What Peru asks for before a dog or cat can enter — the microchip, the rabies work, the permit and the paperwork — and how far ahead you need to start. We handle all of it on a move we arrange.

The order matters more than the effort: a rabies vaccination given before the microchip was implanted does not count in most regimes, and a titer test drawn too early restarts a waiting period. Peru, of ficially the Republic of Peru, is a country in western South America. Because Peru is in Latin America And Caribbean, transit countries on the way can impose extra live-animal rules even when the destination file looks straightforward. No minimum but if it`s older than 3 months need to have rabies vaccine.

Dogs and cats:
Valid vaccinations (following manufacture in structions)
Internal and external deworming
Health certificate from Government authorities from exporter country.
For other animals an Import Permit needs to be applied for at SENASA of fices.
Custom clearance can be made with speed up process only if pet arrives after the owner. Both need to come from the same origin and need to proof entrance of the client with stamp on passport.

Rabies and vaccinations
1- or 3-year rabies vaccine approve (As per manufacturer in structions). Need at least 30 days after vaccination to enter the country. Puppies younger than 3 months do not need rabies vaccine.
Current vaccines:
Dogs: Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Hepatitis, Leptospirosis and Rabies.
Cats: Feline Panleukopenia and Rabies.
The Rabies vaccine is mandatory for both pets from 3 months of age.
Tests and treatments

Deworming (in ternal and external) carried out within 15 days prior to the trip.
Health certificate and permits
Needed to be done by the exporter government authorities within 10 days prior importation.
Needed for animals other than dogs and cats.
Quarantine
No quarantine for dogs and cats if all documents are in order. For all other animals, quarantine is mandatory and need to be arranged prior arrival.

Customs, agents, and airports
Highly recommended
Pets must enter Peru via Chavez International Airport.
Airports listed on this destination file: LIM, CJA, AQP, CUZ, TRU, CIX, PEM, JUL, IQT, PIU, TCQ, TPP, PCL, TBP.
Custom clearance process takes between 4-8 hours.
Upon arrival pets need to pass SENASA health in spection and then customs clearance.
For clearance is very important that AWB shows the price of the freight, it cannot show “as agreed”.
Original health documents and AWB need to come with the pets if not, not possible to clear.
Custom clearance can be done 24/7.
If a pet arrives withing 6 months after owner, no taxes (only 1 pet).If pet arrives as commercial move or not after owners’ entrance to Peru (from same origin and withing following 6 months) need to pay taxes: (32% of (FOB + Value of the pet)
Export notes
All pets need to travel with complete vaccinations (same as per importation).
If dogs and cats are traveling to Mexico, USA or Canada the requirements are Health Certificate from Vet, in ternal and external deworming and screwworm certificate (USA only).
All other destinations need to pass Government in spection (SENASA) to get exportation zoo sanitary certificate.
