Ercan International Airport (Turkish: Ercan Uluslararasi Havalimanı (IATA: ECN, ICAO: LCEN) is the primary civilian airport of the state of Northern Cyprus. Northern Cyprus, of ficially the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, comprises the northeastern portion of the island of Cyprus. At least 3 months old.

Bringing pets can be done in 3 ways: in cabin, as excess baggage, and as manifested cargo, but must enter by Air at the Eran International Airport. Pets can no enter Northern Cyprus from Cyprus over land.

The owner or the person responsible for the pet, must notify the veterinary office at the point of entry 48 hours prior to the pet’s arrival.

Upon arrival, pets will be in spected by a veterinary of ficer or by a customs of ficer on duty. All pets must be free of evidence of communicable diseases to humans when examined by port of entry authorities. If your pet is not in good health, further examination by licensed Veterinarian may be required at your expense. Pets may be subject to quarantine.

The Pet Import License as well as all the documents that come with it must be provided in both English and Turkish languages. The animal entry conditions can be altered depending on the epidemiological situation in the country of their departure. Check the animal export regulations in your country.

Import of Cats and Dogs.

You can have no doubt that your pet will like it in Northern Cyprus, as Cypriots adore and cherish animals. To obtain the Pet Import License for your cat or dog, you must provide the following documents:

Completed Application Form (PIB.01)

Certificate of Vaccination Against Rabies.

Rabies Test Report from an EU-approved laboratory. (The test must in dicate the

rabies antibody titer equal to or greater than 0,5 I.U./ml.)

Upon arrival in the TRNC, you must provide the following documents:

Pet Import License issued by the TRNC Veterinary Department.

Pet's Passport and a Health Certificate showing rabies vaccination.

The original of the Laboratory Rabies Test Report with the in formation about

antibody level.

Export Health Certificate (4891 EHC) issued by DEFRA/SEERAD (In order to get it, all pets must undergo a health examination 48 hours prior to export.)

Your pet will have to go through customs. If the documents fail to comply with the requirements, an animal can't enter the TRNC and is sent back to the country of departure. The transportation of animals back to the country of departure is organized and paid by the maritime or airline company. If a pet owner doesn't want to send it back, they must pay for a 3-month quarantine for it. The place for a pet's quarantining is designated by the Director of the Veterinary Service. Pet owner pays for food, medical tests, and vaccination of their animal. Besides, pet owner pays the quarantine fee that equals 30 TL per day. If an animal hasn't been sent to the departure country, it is declared dangerous for people and other animals. In this case, it is subject to a compulsory euthanasia within 2 days.

Identification and microchip

Every dog/cat must be in dividually identified with an electronic microchip. The microchip must comply with the ISO standards 11784 & 11785.

Rabies and vaccinations

All dogs and cats must be vaccinated against rabies. Unvaccinated pet animals are prohibited. The rabies vaccine should be given after the implantation of the microchip.

To get vaccinated, the dog/cat should be at least 12 weeks old.

The rabies vaccine must be given minimum 1 month and maximum 1 year before the import.

Boosters must be given before the previous rabies vaccine expires.

Dogs: Rabies, distemper, hepatitis, and Leptospira.

Cats: Rabies, feline enteritis, and feline in fluenza.

Tests and treatments

A rabies antibody titration test must be done, after pet is micro chipped and in an approved lab. by the EU, an OIE approved lab. The original test results must accompany pet. Your pet won’t need to pass a rabies blood test if you are coming from an EU country or a listed country (such as: the UK, the United States, Australia, Canada, Russia and more).

The blood sample must be taken 30 days after the rabies vaccination was given and 3 months before entry. In other words, pets can’t enter Cyprus before the blood test is at least 3 months old. The test result should state that the neutralizing antibody titer is equal to or greater than 0.5 IU/ml.

Health certificate and permits

Pets entering must be accompanied by an of ficial veterinary health certificate 48 before exporting and be approved by the governing authority responsible for veterinary affairs tn the country your flight to North Cyprus originates. Pets entering from United Kingdom must have export permit issued by DEFRA or SEERAD.

Import Permit must be obtained from the TRNC Directorate of the Department of Veterinary Medicine in Nicosia for 750 TL. The application must be in Turkish or English and is valid for 30 days. The Import license can be obtained in advance by sending the application request by email. You must provide a copy of the Permit and Receipt of payment upon arrival. Pet Import License can also be obtained upon arrival. If you arrive at night, on a holiday, or on a weekend, you pet will be put in quarantine until in spection can be performed.

Pets that do not meet entrance requirements will be subject to 3 months of quarantine at the place and conditions determined by the Director of the Veterinary Office at the expense of the owner.

It is located about 13 kilometers (8.1 mi) east of Nicosia, near the village of Tymbou. A new terminal and an extended runway to 3200 meters opened on 20 July 2023. The new airport is fully compliant with in ternational standards.

The Crate containing your anima must be of in ternational standards it must be large enough to allow the animal to stand in a natural position, turn and lie down. All costs in clude transfer, quarantine, vaccination, or treatment fees, must be paid by the owners of the animal prior to collection following quarantine. The Veterinary Department is not liable for sickness or death of animal whilst in quarantine. The Directorate reserves the right to change the import conditions according to the animal’s health status in country of origin and TRNC.

Other pets / CITES / extra rules

Captive Birds Import:

To obtain an Import License for captive birds, the following documents must be provided:

Completed Application Form (PIB.01);

Veterinary Health Certificate.

The documents proving that a bird is free from in fectious diseases in cluding Newcastle and avian flu, and the premises of its origin must not be situated in an area subject to restriction due to these diseases.

Upon arrival in the TRNC, you must provide the following documents:

Pet Import License.

Health Certificate issued by a vet in your country.

Export Health Certificate issued in your country.

Birds also must go through customs. If the documents fail to comply with the requirements, birds can't enter the TRNC.

Import Conditions for Other Pet Animals.

It is also necessary to apply for a Pet Import License and provide a Veterinary Health Certificate to import other animals. The conditions of the import will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
