IMPORT OF PETS
It takes one day to clear a pet arriving in Albania. The following documents are required:
- International Health Certificate endorsed by Government vet at the country of origin issued not more than 10 days before arrival
- Identification (Microchip/readable tattoo number)
- Pet Passport / Vaccination history – in cluding up to date vaccines. Rabies vaccine has to be not less than 30 days and not more than 1 year old.
- Copy of owner's passport
- Note from hosting company that the shipper will be working in Albania for certain period (not applicable for Albanian citizens)
- Power of Attorney for Agent to handle the customs clearance.
For pets entering Albania from a rabies-free or rabies-controlled country, your cat or dog must be vaccinated for rabies no sooner than 30 days prior to entry and not more than the expiration date of the manufacturer of the vaccine is required. If your dog, cat or ferret has been vaccinated before it was fitted with a microchip, it will have to be vaccinated again after the microchip is implanted and wait 21 days before entering Albania.
No airline accepts cargo transport of pets from Tirana; thus export is arranged via Sofia, Bulgaria.
Any shipment of less than 5 consider as personal shipment, more than 5 considered as commercial.
Similarly to the Personal Pet, but must going through Customs on arrival will be required.

Rabies and vaccinations
Rabies vaccine has to be no less than 30 days prior to travel and before the expiration date of the vaccine.
If pet was vaccinated BEFORE microchipping, the pet will need to be vaccinated again and can enter after 21 days. Record of vaccinations is required. All primary vaccinations should be administered with one-year vaccines.

Rabies test is not required for entry. A Rabies Titer Test is recommended for pets entering from a high rabies country.
Ticks and tapeworm treatment is not mandatory before entering Albania but recommended.
Health certificate and permits
Within 10 days of travel, an accredited veterinarian must complete the bi-lingual health certificate for Albania and endorsed by governing authority of the exporting country if the exporting country mandates it.

No quarantine is required as long as the docs are all completed, if no, quarantine is required based of the vet in spector.

Border veterinary control is conducted by of ficial vets at the airport in spection point. Pets are subject to physical in spection and documentary review upon arrival.
Advance notification to airport veterinary of ficials is recommended, especially if the flight arrives outside normal daytime business hours — veterinarians may not be on site otherwise.
TIA does not have a dedicated long‑term pet holding facility like some major airports in larger countries.
Pets arriving as cargo or accompanied baggage typically remain in their crates under customs cargo area supervision until cleared by veterinary and customs.
