Documents required for import customs clearance of pets (dogs and cats):

• Pet's passport / vaccination history - in cluding up to date vaccines. Vaccines against rabies and feline / canine diseases must have been given within the past 12 months, but not within 30 days prior to arrival.
• International health certificate endorsed by Government vet at country of origin, respecting the validity of the certificate in the country of origin.
• Copy of owner’s passport
• Copy of owner’s residence/work permit
• Health certificate
• Vaccination certificate
• Export / import / transit permit
• Animal shall have an electronic identification system (transponder)

The maximum number of pets that may accompany the owner or an authorized person during a single non-commercial journey may not exceed five.

In case of commercial transportation, A licensed veterinarian in the originating country must complete the commercial EU certificate for Moldova within 48 hours of travel.

Required

Rabies and vaccinations

Required to show proof of Rabies vaccination after microchip was implanted. Rabies vaccine has to be no less than 30 days and no more than 1 year old. If your pet is entering a rabies free or rabies-controlled country.

If pet was vaccinated BEFORE microchipping, the pet will need to be vaccinated again and can enter after 21 days. Record of vaccinations is required. All primary vaccinations should be administered with one-year vaccines.

For dogs: Rabies, Distemper, Hepatitis, hepatitis enteritis, adenovirosis, Leptospirosis, and Parovirus.

For cats: Feline Vioral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus and Panleukopenia.

Tests and treatments

To enter Moldova from any country, your pet must be microchipped, then vaccinated for rabies (in that order). After waiting a minimum of 30 days, a rabies titer test (FAVN) must be administered. (Have your veterinarian scan your pet's microchip prior to the titer test.)

This test can be carried out at least 30 days after vaccination and 3 months before the journey, in one of the authorized EU laboratories. The pet can travel to EU only if the result of the rabies antibody level test is at least 0,5 IU/ml. A tapeworm treatment is required when entering Moldova from any country.

Health certificate and permits

The animal shall be accompanied by an International Health Certificate issued by an of ficial veterinarian, authorized by the competent authority of the country, or by an EU type passport in the case of a re-entry of the pet in EU, which will certify the anti-rabies vaccination or re-vaccination in compliance with this regulation. The health certificate is considered valid for 5 days from the date of the issue. The certificate must also be accompanied by a declaration statement signed by the owner (model compliant with Annex IV, sections A and B, EU Regulation No 577/2013) confirming that the movement of the animal is of a non-commercial nature. The Health Certificate should certify that:

• The animal(s) has been examined and found to be healthy and free from any clinical

signs of rabies and in fectious or contagious diseases, at the time of examination and

certification, prior to export.

• No cases of rabies have been reported to have occurred in the establishment /

premises of origin for at least twelve (12) months prior to export.

• The animal(s) are either current on their vaccination for rabies, using approved

anti-rabies vaccines, or the animal(s) are under three (3) months of age and their

dams were current on rabies vaccinations at the time of their birth.

Not required when entering with a personal pet.

• Certain dog/cat breeds may be declared dangerous or even forbidden for import to certain countries of EU, the refore it is recommended that a passenger shall consult the legislation with regard to the list of forbidden animal breeds before traveling with a pet to EU.
