  • Vaccines up to date:

For dogs: Parvovirus, Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, Leptospira, Coronavirus and rabies.

For cats: Feline viral rhinotracheitis, feline calicivirus., feline panleukopenia and rabies.

  • Official health certificate issued within 10 days prior to the arrival date in Colombia.
  • Internal and external parasites treatments done within 60 days prior to travel or according to the country of origin.

Import Permit is Not required.

Animals that are being imported in commercial lot must obtain an import permit beforehand.

Identification and microchip

Microchipping is mandatory in Colombia for pets less than one year old and Highly Recommended For pets over one year old.

Rabies and vaccinations

  • Vaccination Requirement: Cats and dogs must be vaccinated against rabies.
  • Timing: The vaccination must be administered at least 21 days before entering Colombia.
  • Validity: A 1 or 3-year rabies vaccination is accepted as long as it is still valid and administered at least 21 days prior to entry.

Dogs: Rabies, Carré's Disease (Distemper), canine hepatitis, leptospirosis (canicola and icterohemorrhagiae), Parvovirus, Coronavirus, Parainfluenza.

Cats: Rabies, Feline Panleukopenia.

Tests and treatments

Blood titer test is not required.

Internal and external deworming treatment within 60 days prior to arrival. It must be show on the HC or an additional certificate.

Health certificate and permits

Dated within 10 days prior to arrival in Colombia and issued by the of ficial authority of the country of origin.

The document must contain the following in formation: the pet’s details as: species, breed, gender, birth date, coat color and particular signs.

Parasites treatments in formation: product name, in gredients, laboratory details and date of the treatment.

Statement: "the animal has been examined within 10 days before departure date and doesn't show any clinical signs of diseases, wounds or healing wounds and it’s in good health for travel.

Colombia does not require an import permit for personal pets entering from any country.

Pets can enter in cabin, as baggage, or in cargo

The authorities work from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm from M-F and on Saturdays from 8:00 am to 11:00 am for departure of pets and for cargo processes.

It is not advisable to send pets as cargo on weekends since there are no of fices open to carry out processes and they would have to remain at the airport all weekend.

Depends of the country of destination but we can have in mind as general requirements:

Vaccines up to date:

For dogs: Parvovirus, Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, Leptospira, Coronavirus and rabies.

For cats: Feline viral rhinotracheitis, feline calicivirus., feline panleukopenia and rabies. The rabies vaccine must be done at least 30 days prior to travel (for puppies) and not olden than 1 year for the date of travel.

Microchip for pets less than one year old.

Health certificate issued within 5 days prior to travel for an authorized Colombian veterinarian. It has to be in Spanish and English.

This document must contain the following in formation: the pet’s details as: species, breed, gender, birth date, coat color and particular signs. Says the pet is in good health in order to travel overseas by plane.

Parasites treatments in formation done one week prior to travel: product name, batch number, in gredients, laboratory details and date of the treatment.

Statement: "the animal has been examined within 5 days before departure date and don’t show any clinical signs of diseases, wounds or healing wounds and it’s in good health for travel.

Internal and external parasites treatments done 7 days prior to travel. For travel to the European Union these treatments have to be done one day prior to travel.

Microchip required for pets traveling in a minimum amount of 3 and if they’re under 4 months of age. (commercial moves to Canada, Costa Rica, Panama and Mexico)

Rabies titer test for travel to the European union:

All the pets traveling to the European Union from a third country needs to be identified by a 15-digit Microchip. (that is the first step of the process)

Once the pets are microchipped, they need to be vaccinated against rabies.

A blood sample needs to be taken at least 30 days after the rabies vaccination.

The blood sampling must be sent to an authorized Laboratory in order to get the test done.

Pets are able to travel to the European Union 90 days after the blood sampling date.

  • The results of the blood test must show that the vaccination was successful (rabies antibody level of at least 0.5 IU/ml).
