The order matters more than the effort: a rabies vaccination given before the microchip was implanted does not count in most regimes, and a titer test drawn too early restarts a waiting period. It’s mandatory for exportation of Chileans or foreign residents with Chilean ID, not for foreigners. For arrivals/in bound is not necessary but must be done as soon as possible.
Rabies and vaccinations
- Rabies vaccination is required, minimum 21 days and less than 1 year before arrival in CHILE.
- Animals that are not primary vaccinated* must certify that their vaccination plan is current in accordance with the provisions of the competent health authority of the country of origin; otherwise, they will be considered primary vaccinated.
In the case of ferrets, they must be immunized with a rabies vaccine specifically in dicated for the species, following the manufacturer's in structions regarding age and vaccination frequency.

Internal and external parasites treatments administered by an approved veterinarian between 5-30 days before entry and must be on health certificate.

If pets arrive as cargo the process takes around 4 hours. Airlines should provide in formation where to collect the pet depending on their ground agents. Before pets are released, original documents must be approved by sanitary of ficial department and customs. Arrivals during weekend out of working hours might not be possible without an agent. Working hours 8:30am to 17:00hrs
When pets arrive as excess baggage or in cabin, process takes around 1 hour. Passenger must show original documents to the sanitary personal located close to the baggage claim area.
