The detail

All importers MUST have an authorized Customs Clearing Agent nominated to handle clearance from Customs upon arrival of animals. Papua New Guinea, island country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. Have the HAWB issued to POM and BAK unless the airline assigns a different live-animal station.

Import requirements

Minimum age 12 weeks. Dogs between 12 weeks and 6 months require their breed to be of ficially verified by a registered veterinarian or for pedigree-registered breeds, a Registration of Pedigree certificate is required. Permission from the Chief Quarantine Officer is required for these dogs under 6 months of age.

• All pets must arrive as Manifest cargo (assistance dogs may be exempt from this)
• All importers MUST have an authorised Customs Clearing Agent nominated to handle clearance from Customs upon arrival of animals.

Dogs and cats are permitted entry into PNG only if they are born, raised and/or have been resident in Australia, Hawaii, New Zealand, Vanuatu and Solomon Islands for more than 1 year.

Dogs and cats originating from countries or states, other than the above mentioned permitted countries, will be eligible for import into PNG only after they have met the import requirements for importation into these (permitted) countries and this in cludes, the requirement for quarantine isolation period. Animals that have not met or successfully undergone quarantine clearance in these countries will not be allowed entry into PNG.

Requirements remain the same.

Identification and microchip

Dogs and cats must be identified by microchip.

Rabies and vaccinations

Vaccination against rabies prohibited (unless in tending re-entry to Australia).

Dogs:

Vaccination against canine distemper, in fectious canine hepatitis, canine parvovirus and parainfluenza with a registered vaccine product at least fourteen days and not more than twelve months prior to export.

Cats:

The cat has been immunized against feline enteritis, feline rhinotracheitis and feline calicivirus, with a registered vaccine product not less than fourteen days and not more than twelve months prior to export.

Tests and treatments

Not required.

Dogs

Within 14 days immediately preceding the date of shipment the dog has been treated with praziquantel at the dose rate of 5 milligrams per kilogram. The dog has been dipped or washed once with an approved acaricide within 5 days of embarkation.

Cats:

The cat has been dipped or washed once with an approved acaricide within 5 days of embarkation.

Health certificate and permits

• Statutory declaration required by owner or agent that the animals for importation:

• Are to the best of his knowledge and belief, free from all in fectious and contagious diseases,
• Have not been in contact with diseased animals for 30 days immediately preceding embarkation,
• Have met the requirements specified in section 1.2 for country of origin.
• Health Certificate endorsed by quarantine veterinary of ficer stating that:

• He/she has read the owners or agent’s statutory declaration with respect to the animals for export, and, after due enquiry, has no reason to doubt the truth of that declaration.
• The animals described in the statutory declaration have been examined within 48 hours of embarkation and found to be in good health, and free of in fectious and contagious disease, ticks, stickfast flea and all external parasites.
• Required parasite treatments have been completed.

An Import Permit is required for pets entering PNG Applications can be made with the National Agriculture Quarantine & Inspection Authority (NAQIA). Permits are valid for 3 months.

Quarantine

All pets are required to spend 48hrs in quarantine on arrival to PNG – all fees are payable directly to Kila

Kila Quarantine Station upon collection. Pets can only arrive on Tuesday or Wednesday. Your pet will be collected

from the airport and transported to the quarantine station by Authorised Quarantine Personnel or your nominated

Customs agent. Owners are not permitted to collect or take charge of the animal/s on arrival

Owners or their agents must inform post‐entry quarantine personnel at least 48 hours prior to actual arrival of the animals.

Restrictions and banned breeds

• Dogs and cats which have been born, raised and for imported animals, have been cleared of quarantine requirements or spent more than 1 year in Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu only may be imported into PNG with prior written permission from the Chief Stock Inspector in the form of an import permit. (These are Permitted Countries or States).
• Arrivals only on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays (unless a public holiday falls on these days).
• Dogs and cats originating from countries known to be endemic for rabies.
• Vaccination against rabies prohibited (unless in tending re-entry to Australia).
• Breeds – Pit Bull Berrier or American Pit Bull, Japanese Toza, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brazileiro, Dingo, Wolf, Perro De Presa Canario, Cane Corso, Alano Espanol, Dogue de Boreaux, etc.
• Hybrids like wolves, Australian dingo, etc.
• Pregnant animals at late pregnancy stage.
• Dogs between 12 weeks and 6 months unless an exemption is granted.
